Clown shoes. That’s what I saw when I looked down at my long, skinny feet attached to my long skinny ankles and legs. I think I was about eight when I realized my feet weren’t so small. I mean, it’s kind of hard to tell an eight year-old to act her age and not her shoe size when they are one in the same…but I digress. I can’t tell you how frustrated my mom and I would get trying to shop for shoes that we could afford and fit and were age appropriate. We even ran to one famous sneaker chain only to find that they didn’t sell anything past a 10 at the time. I felt most self-conscious about my feet when I realized I wasn’t going to be six feet tall to compensate, or when kids teased me for not being able to afford to replace them when they wore out.

As I’ve gotten older, perhaps not having much luck with shoes growing up has inspired my shoe addiction – I now have a collection of over 100 pair. I discovered a store call Shoe Time (also known as the $10 shoe store) in my hometown in college that changed my shoe life. They had all kinds of rad designs up to size 12, including the bright yellow pumps that allowed me embrace my feet. I’ve been Foot Fabulous ever since!
