Am I Motivational Speaker?

Earlier this month, I was asked to speak at a self-esteem forum for girls of the Mississippi Delta. The “Carefree Black Girl Self-Esteem Forum” event was hosted by Miss Black Sunflower County 2017, Nicole Watkins. I was super jazzed about this speaking engagement because while I’ve been asked to sing or host for events before, I’ve never been asked to be a featured motivational speaker. Woah! As I think about it now, I feel incredibly honored and feel a deep responsibility to uphold my values because apparently, people are watching me. Mind you, I didn’t know the current title holder or about the event in general, but I was still considered to speak to these ladies-in-training.

I encourage you all to also take note of the little things you do on the day-to-day. Live as if you’re writing your own obituary. Yeah I know, that’s a little extreme and morbid, but we all have a duty to be worthy role models to the people around us. Whether we like it or not, people are watching and opportunities are approaching, so get ready to WERK!

So, am I a “motivational speaker”? Possibly. I’m open to any opportunity that’ll help me grow.

Shoe Deets: For those of you who were checking out my shoes, I’m wearing the Licona embroidered sandal stiletto by Aldo. I picked these up at DSW at the top of the summer. They’re surprisingly comfortable after a couple of hours. To purchase these, click here.
