The COVID-19 pandemic inspired this Jackson, Mississippi songwriter to discover her voice in her debut single “Stand,” available on all platforms on January 31, 2022

Jackson, Mississippi native and Jackson State University alumna, Amara Knott (A.K.A. “Amara Nicole”), is a budding cross-genre singer songwriter, eager to make her original music debut. Currently a second-year law student at The University of Mississippi School of Law, Amara Nicole’s musical journey is an interesting one. She began writing poetry and music in third grade, and like many artists, Amara enjoyed singing within her school, church, and community choirs throughout her childhood. After taking a break from singing in undergraduate school to focus on her education, Amara was reintroduced to music during the insurgence of the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak as she was completing her first year of law school. Inspired by the great loss and suffering experienced by her extended family and community, Amara began to craft a quiet anthem that would encourage others to push through their own battles of pain and heartache. The song she wrote, “Stand”, which will be released later this month, features cover art by Graphic Designer Allyson Durr, and supporting instrumentation by Jackson, MS talent: Terrance Evans (Track Producer/Pianist), Gary Scott (Bass Guitar), XaVyon Jamison (Drums), Granard McClendon (Acoustic Guitar), and Shell Enns of Crown Studios (Recording/Mixing/ Mastering Engineer). “Stand” is a simple yet impactful Gospel/Christian medley that speaks to the hope that can only be found in Christian faith. As the world began to adjust to its “new normal,” Amara Nicole began to lean into the catchy tunes she began to record during her quarantine experience and decided that the messages in these songs were worth sharing with the world.

Today, Amara Nicole is ready to bring purposeful music to the ears of real music lovers. With “Stand” being the first of several singles to be released this year, Amara hopes that this song will continue to empower listeners to grow in their faith as a new year emerges. Similarly, many of Amara’s other songs are within the R&B/ Soul genres and are filled with soulful melodies, layered harmonies and clever, family-friendly lyrics that speak to the power of introspection. Through her music, Amara Nicole uses the lessons she’s learned from her community to write about the human experience as she shares songs of love, loss, and hope.
